Apartment soundproofing in Batumi: walls, ceiling, floor and risers
We do apartment soundproofing in Batumi surface by surface: walls on a separate frame with wool and two layers of plasterboard, ceilings on acoustic hangers, floors on a floating screed, and riser boxing. First we find out which way the sound travels, because it often gets round a wall through sockets and gaps. After the work, voices and the TV next door merge into an indistinct background, while footsteps from upstairs only become more muffled unless the neighbour does some work of their own. A wall with materials costs from 160 ₾ per m².
from 160 ₾/m²framed wall with materials: wool, profiles and two layers of plasterboard. The final price is confirmed once agreed.
- Timeline: 1.5–2 weeks for the shared wall and ceiling of a bedroom of about 14 m², with lining and paint; a floating screed adds drying time
- Warranty: A 2-year warranty on soundproofing, lining and screed
Who it’s for
The apartment behind your bedroom wall is let short-term, and you hear guests arriving with suitcases at two in the morning
Your downstairs neighbour complains about your footsteps, and you are planning a new floor anyway
The apartment is in black or white frame, and the shared walls aren't finished yet
In the bathroom and bedroom you hear every flush from upstairs going down the riser
You work from home, and the neighbours' conversations get in the way of your calls

What exactly you hear, and which way it gets in
Apartment soundproofing in Batumi starts with the question of what is bothering you. Voices, the TV and music travel through the air, and lining with wool deals with them. Footsteps and suitcase wheels strike the slab directly and spread through the concrete of the whole building, while drains in the riser are heard through the pipes and the boxing.
Sound looks for a way round. Sockets on a shared wall sit back to back with the neighbours', a gap is left under the ceiling slab, the riser boxing was built without wool. So the foreman listens to the wall in the evening, when the neighbours are home, takes the socket covers off and taps along the junctions. Sometimes sealing one gap removes half the problem.
Walls: lining that doesn't touch the wall
We set the frame with a gap from the shared wall. The tracks are fixed to the floor and ceiling slabs over anti-vibration tape, and to the wall itself, where stiffness is needed, only through acoustic hangers. We fill the frame tightly, with no gaps, with mineral wool slabs and board it with two layers of plasterboard with staggered joints. The wool absorbs sound in the cavity, and the double board adds mass that sound finds hard to set vibrating.
We move the sockets off the shared wall into the lining and fill the old holes with mortar. The perimeter of the lining is sealed with elastic sealant: rigid filler in this joint cracks, and sound gets through the crack. Otherwise this is a standard installation of plasterboard frames and linings.
On a 50 mm profile, with a gap from the wall and two layers of board, our lining takes 8–10 cm off the room. If you can't spare the space, we fit frameless sound insulation panels: they are thinner, but they cost more and need a level wall.
The ceiling and footsteps from above
A suspended ceiling with wool on acoustic hangers deals well with voices and music from upstairs. Footsteps are harder. The impact goes into the slab and from there into the walls, and some of the sound gets round any ceiling. After the work the thumping is more muffled, but it doesn't go away.
Impact noise is only really removed where it starts: with a floating floor in the apartment above, a rug, soft pads under the furniture legs. If your upstairs neighbour is starting a renovation, we can price a floor like that for them too.
We keep downlights in such a ceiling to a minimum, because every hole weakens the lining. A stretch ceiling underneath is fine as a finish, but it does almost nothing for sound.
The floor: so that you aren't heard downstairs
We lay a soundproofing mat on the slab, stick a perimeter strip along the walls, the lining and around the pipes, and pour a reinforced screed that touches the building's concrete nowhere. The screed over the mat is at least 5 cm thick, and together with the mat the floor rises by 6–8 cm, so we work out the threshold and front door levels in advance. If the walls are being lined too, the frame goes up before the floor, directly on the slab. Drying and sign-off of the screed are covered on the page about floor screed.
One rigid bridge undoes the whole job. Mortar that has run in under the strip, wall tiles pressing against the floor tiles, a skirting screwed to both the wall and the floor, and the footsteps go back into the slab. We trim the strip only after the floor covering is down, and seal the joint between floor and wall with elastic sealant.
Risers, the ventilation shaft and the door
Plastic drain pipes are louder than old cast iron, and at night a drain from upstairs can be heard in the bedroom through the boxing. We wrap the riser inside the boxing in sound-insulating material, fill the boxing with wool and fit the pipe clamps with rubber inserts. If the riser is being replaced anyway, we use low-noise pipes; more on this on the page about replacing drain pipes.
We line the thin walls of the ventilation shaft the same way as a riser, but we don't narrow the duct itself: it serves the whole building, and the draught matters more than quiet. Noise from the common corridor comes in through the front door, and what helps there is a seal around the frame and a threshold that closes the gap above the floor.
Street noise
Street noise comes in through the windows, not the outside wall, and lining that wall changes almost nothing. What helps is double glazing chosen for street noise and an installation joint with no voids around the frame. The glass and profiles are compared on the page about aluminium versus uPVC windows. If the window is shut and you can still hear the street, we first look for a gap in the joint at the frame and the sill.
What we promise and how we sign off the layers
We don't promise silence in decibels: some sound travels through the building's structure, and how much of it remains doesn't depend on our wall alone. What we do tell you before the work is which noise will go almost completely and which will only get quieter.
Before boarding, we photograph the tape under the profiles, the wool slabs in the frame, the filled socket holes and the perimeter strip around the pipes. The photos go into the weekly report and the handover file. How soundproofing works alongside waterproofing and thermal insulation on the same wall is explained in the overview of all kinds of insulation.
How much soundproofing in Batumi costs
Framed wall soundproofing with materials costs 160–215 ₾ per m²: wool, profiles, tape and two layers of plasterboard. A ceiling on acoustic hangers costs more, 205–275 ₾ per m², because the work is overhead and there are more hangers. A floating screed on a mat comes to 120–170 ₾ per m².
We measure each surface we line: a 4 m wall with a 2.8 m ceiling gives about 11 m². Moving sockets, stripping finished surfaces and frameless panels push the price up, and work in a black or white frame apartment, while the walls are open, costs less. The final cost is set after the site measurement and once the estimate is agreed.
Stages and timelines
-
Evening inspection
1 day
The foreman listens to the wall when the neighbours are home, takes off socket covers, and checks the junctions with the slab, the boxing and the door.
-
Deciding surface by surface
1–2 days
We choose which walls, ceiling and floor to line, work out how many centimetres will be lost, and mark the new positions of sockets and backing.
-
Preparation
1–3 days
We strip finishes and skirting, seal gaps and holes, and move the electrics.
-
Walls and ceiling
4–7 days
A frame fixed to the slab over tape and hangers, wool, two layers of plasterboard. We photograph each section before it is closed up.
-
Floor
2–3 days
Mat, perimeter strip along the walls and lining, reinforced screed. While the screed dries, the walls are being skimmed.
-
Finishing and sign-off
3–5 days
Sealant around the perimeter, paint, sockets. Sign-off on site or by video call, and we sign the certificate.
Local specifics in Batumi
Short-term letting in Batumi means the neighbours change every few days, and guests often arrive at night off late flights and trains. Owners who live in their own apartment all year round most often come to us with exactly this problem. For them, the wall by the bed and the bedroom ceiling matter most.
For apartments that are let, we often recommend porcelain tiles on the floor ourselves: they don't mind water or sand. But heels and dropped crockery sound loud on them, and the impact goes into the slab with nothing to soften it. If the apartment is above someone else's bedroom, we advise putting a floating screed under the porcelain tiles from the start.
In summer there are also the outdoor units of air conditioners on the facade. The hum of a neighbour's unit travels along the wall through the brackets, and lining does little against it. We mount our own units on brackets with anti-vibration mounts, so as not to create the same problem for others.
Acoustic hangers and frames have to be fixed into concrete, and that is noisy work. We do it during the day, between 08:00 and 23:00 as the law allows, or during the hours the building permits.
Materials and brands
Profiles and plasterboard are Knauf, and the lining is two layers. In a wall next to a bathroom both layers are moisture-resistant. We use stone wool in slabs rather than rolls: slabs stay in the frame without sagging and leave no voids at the top. The slab thickness matches the profile width, so the wool fills the cavity completely without being compressed.
Anti-vibration tape goes under the tracks, and the frame is fixed to the wall with acoustic hangers, not the direct hangers used for an ordinary ceiling. For the floor we use a mat rated for the load of the screed, otherwise it compresses over time and the screed cracks. The perimeter joint is sealed with an acrylic or silicone sealant that stays elastic.
What makes up the cost
Timeline: 1.5–2 weeks for the shared wall and ceiling of a bedroom of about 14 m², with lining and paint; a floating screed adds drying time
- we measure the area of each surface we line
What raises the cost
- a ceiling on acoustic hangers in addition to the walls
- moving sockets, switches and the air conditioner line off the shared wall
- frameless panels where you can't give up space for a frame
- stripping finished surfaces and floor tiles to lay a floating screed
What lowers the cost
- an apartment in black or white frame, where the walls and floor are still open
- one shared wall in the bedroom instead of every surface in the room
We prepare the exact estimate from measurements and photos. It’s free and comes with no obligation.

A 2-year warranty on soundproofing, lining and screed. It covers the quality of the installation: cracks in the joints, detachment, gaps at the junctions. Cable we moved into the lining counts as concealed wiring and has a 5-year warranty. A sense of quiet can't be measured by a warranty: we give our noise forecast before the work, and the warranty covers the installation.
Questions and answers
How much does soundproofing cost in Batumi per m²?
Framed wall soundproofing with materials costs 160–215 ₾ per m², a ceiling on acoustic hangers 205–275 ₾, and a floating screed on a mat 120–170 ₾ per m². Frameless panels cost more than a frame. If you buy the materials yourself, installation on a wall or ceiling costs 54–72 ₾ per m².
We measure the walls and ceiling we line, not the floor of the room. We send a preliminary estimate from photos within 24 hours on business days, and the final cost is set after the site measurement and once the estimate is agreed.
How many centimetres does wall soundproofing take up?
Our framed system on a 50 mm profile, with wool and two layers of plasterboard, takes 8–10 cm off each lined wall: that is the profile, the two boards and the gap from the wall. On a crooked wall the frame has to stand further out, and it comes closer to 10 cm. A ceiling on hangers drops by about the same, and a floating floor rises by 6–8 cm.
In a 3 by 4 metre bedroom, one lined wall is barely noticeable, but a wardrobe or a bed between two walls may no longer fit. So we check the furniture sizes before the work.
Can I soundproof without a frame, using a thin material?
Thin materials under wallpaper, cork and soundproofing paint make no noticeable difference: a layer a few millimetres thick adds neither mass nor an air gap to the wall. The money is spent, and you hear the neighbours just the same.
Of the thin solutions, the ones that work are frameless sound insulation panels, fixed to the wall and covered with plasterboard. They are thinner than a frame but still take up several centimetres, and the wall under them has to be level.
Why can I still hear the neighbours after the wall was soundproofed?
Most often the sound has found a way round. The lining went up but the sockets were left in the old wall, the gap between the lining and the ceiling wasn't closed, or the frame was screwed rigidly to the shared wall and started carrying the sound. It also happens that the noise wasn't coming through that wall at all, but through the ceiling, the riser or the ventilation shaft.
If someone else's work has made things only slightly quieter, we start with an inspection: we take off a couple of sockets and check the perimeter and the boxing. Often it is enough to redo these details, and the lining doesn't have to come off completely.
Can I hang a TV or kitchen cabinets on a soundproofed wall?
Yes, if you tell us before boarding. We fit backing of timber or moisture-resistant plywood into the frame at the right height and fix the bracket to it. An anchor driven through the lining into the old wall is not allowed: it connects the lining to the shared wall, and sound crosses over it as if over a bridge.
Wall cabinets in the kitchen and a TV hold securely on the backing. Light shelves and pictures go on plasterboard fixings. We mark the backing positions on a drawing in the handover file, so that nobody has to hunt for them with a drill later.
