Studio apartment design in Batumi: zones, storage and lighting
Studio apartment design in Batumi works out how to fit a kitchen, bed, sofa and wardrobes into one 25–40 m² room without the zones getting in each other's way. We offer two or three zoning schemes, design the storage, the lighting scenes and a kitchen that doesn't catch the eye, and then issue drawings for the crew. A design project for a whole studio up to 40 m² costs from 4,760 ₾, with the renovation and furniture extra.
from 4 760 ₾/projectdesign project for a whole studio up to 40 m²: zoning, 3D, drawings and materials list. The final price is confirmed once agreed.
- Timeline: 4–6 weeks for a design project for a 25–40 m² studio, from the measured survey to the materials list and estimate
- Warranty: 2 years on the work, 5 years on concealed pipes and wiring

One room for everything
Studio apartment design in Batumi starts with a short list: who lives there, how many beds are needed, whether you cook at home and whether you work at a desk. In 25–40 m² the kitchen, bed, sofa and wardrobes share one room, and every decision can be seen from anywhere in it. So first we agree which zone comes first and which ones make room for it.
A new-build studio is most often narrow and long. By the entrance are the bathroom and the kitchen wall with the outlets, and at the far end a window or floor-to-ceiling glazing. Daylight comes from one side only, and anything placed by the window takes it away from the rest of the room. Almost every later choice depends on this geometry.
Three zoning schemes
For a studio we usually show two or three options based on these schemes and say straight away what each one costs you:
| Scheme | How it works | Who it suits | What you give up |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bed by the window | The sleeping area in the bright part, the sofa and table nearer the kitchen | One person or a couple living in the studio permanently | A living area without daylight, and the bed can be seen from the door |
| Living area by the window, bed at the back | The bed behind shelving, a curtain or glass, the sofa and table by the window | People who work from home and have guests over | The sleeping area needs its own fresh-air supply and good artificial light |
| No separate bed | A sofa bed by the window, and the whole room is free during the day | Studios up to 25–28 m² and short stays | The bed has to be made up every day, and the bedding stored next to the sofa |
The wiring depends on the scheme: the sockets by the bed, sofa and desk sit in different places in each option. That is why we approve the scheme before drawing the electrical plan. How a bed is screened off with a curtain, shelving or glass, and what that does to the air in the room, is covered on the page about studio renovation.
A kitchen in full view
In a studio the kitchen can be seen from the sofa, from the bed and from the door. We decide in advance what stays open and what is hidden: usually the worktop and one shelf are on show, while the appliances, crockery and bin are behind fronts. We build the fridge into a tall unit by the entrance, away from the bed, so its hum is barely audible at night.
A straight kitchen along the wall by the entrance takes up the least floor space and is the easiest to connect to the developer's outlets. An L-shaped one gives more worktop but reaches into the room. We rarely draw an island in a studio under 40 m²: together with the walkways around it, it takes up almost the full width of a narrow room. More often we put in a peninsula or a breakfast bar that also serves as a table. Heights, walkways and where the cooker hood goes are covered in more detail on the page about kitchen-living room design.
Storage: what goes where
We design the wardrobes in a studio around how often things are taken out. Everything used daily should be within reach by the door or the kitchen, seasonal things go up top and under the bed, and bulky items are gathered in one narrow tall cupboard.
- Clothes on hangers: a 60 cm deep wardrobe by the entrance, with a two-tier rail for short items in part of it.
- Shoes and bags: a cabinet 30–35 cm deep by the door, with ventilation slots.
- Suitcases, winter duvets and beach things: the top section of a floor-to-ceiling wardrobe and the bed base.
- Vacuum cleaner, ironing board, cleaning products: a tall cupboard about 40 cm wide with a socket inside for charging.
- Crockery and food: drawers under the worktop and a top row of cabinets up to the ceiling.
We check widths with the furniture, not by eye. In a studio 3.2 m wide, a 60 cm deep wardrobe continued along the long wall as far as the sleeping area leaves 2.6 m. A 160×200 bed placed across the room then leaves 60 cm at its foot: less than we allow even in a separate bedroom, and a hinged wardrobe door will no longer open there. So we end the wardrobe before the bed, and if storage space is short, we put the bed along the wall. Carcasses and hardware for a humid climate are described in the section on custom wardrobes.
Lighting for one room
In a studio all the light fittings can be seen at once, and that is the main difference from an apartment with doors. So there is one colour temperature for the whole room, and different tasks are handled with circuits and brightness. Why different shades of white split an open space into patches is explained on the page about lighting design.
We group the lighting into scenes, each with its own switch or button. In the “evening” scene the kitchen is off, and the floor lamp and wall lights by the sofa are on. For work, the lamp over the desk and dimmed general lighting are on. Before sleep only the bedside lights stay on, and they are directional: one person reads while the other sleeps. We hide the lighting under the kitchen wall cabinets in a profile so that no glowing strip can be seen from the sofa.
A studio for yourself and a studio for letting
The same 30 m² is designed differently depending on who will live there:
| Decision | For yourself | For letting |
|---|---|---|
| Beds | A bed and a sofa for relaxing | A bed and a sofa bed, with a clear strip in front of the sofa for the unfolded mattress |
| Storage | Wardrobes for every season along the whole wall | A guest wardrobe for a week and a lockable owner's section in the same carcass |
| Kitchen | Full-size, with an oven and a long worktop | More compact, and the unit this frees up goes to the guest wardrobe |
| Table | A desk, with sockets and an internet cable | A dining table by the window, which doubles as a laptop desk |
If the studio is let in summer and you come in autumn, we make the guest features so they don't get in your way. While you are there, the lockable section becomes your wardrobe, the sofa bed stays a sofa, and the table by the window folds into a console. The other guest-oriented decisions, from photo angles to linen storage, are gathered on the page about designing an apartment for short-term guests.
What you get with a studio design project
We show the studio in 3D as a whole: it is one room, and looking at it in parts makes no sense. There are usually four views: from the entrance, from the window, from the bed and from the sofa, and the bathroom is shown separately.
A studio needs almost as many working sheets as a 1+1 apartment. An electrical plan with socket heights, lighting by circuit, plumbing outlets, a kitchen wall elevation, drawings of the built-in wardrobes, the bathroom tile layout and a materials list are needed in any apartment; in a small space they are simply more tightly packed. We price the renovation estimate straight from the materials list.
How much studio apartment design costs in Batumi
We price a studio up to 40 m² as one project, not per metre: from 4,760 to 7,130 ₾. The price includes the layout with zoning options, 3D, working drawings and the materials list. This is the designer's work; the renovation and furniture are priced separately.
A studio over 40 m² is priced at the full project rate, 145–190 ₾ per m². If you only need the furniture layout, a space plan costs 45–66 ₾ per m², and 3D of one room, which here means the whole studio, 660–960 ₾.
Made-to-measure wardrobes and a kitchen along the whole long wall, a glass partition and moving the kitchen make it more expensive. It costs less if the kitchen and bathroom stay where the developer put them and some of the furniture is ready-made. The final cost is set after the measured survey and once the scope of the project is agreed.

Local specifics in Batumi
Sea-facing windows in Batumi usually look west or north-west, and in summer the low evening sun shines into the room for a long time. In a studio a curtain is the only way to darken the sleeping area, so we draw a double curtain track across the full width of the glazing, for a sheer and a blackout curtain, with a recess for it in the ceiling.
Studios in Batumi are sold both in residential buildings and in aparthotels. If the unit is let by an operator, the contract with the operator and the building's rules may set requirements for the finishes, furniture or lock. We ask for these documents before the concept so that we don't have to redo the 3D after it has been approved.
Many studios open onto a narrow balcony through a hinged sash in the glazing. An open sash takes up a strip of floor by the window, and a sofa or table can no longer go there. So before zoning we check which way and how far the sashes open, and place the furniture by the window outside their swing.
Materials and brands
In a studio all the sockets and switches can be seen at once, so we use one range for the whole room, for example Legrand or Schneider Electric, and one frame colour. We make the kitchen and wardrobe fronts matt, in the colour of the walls: a wall of glossy wardrobes reflects the window and collects fingerprints.
If a partition by the bed is needed, we draw it in toughened fluted or frosted glass in an aluminium frame: light from the window passes through, but the bed can't be seen. Under-cabinet lighting goes into a profile with a diffuser. We choose the dishwasher and fridge by the noise level in their data sheets, because they run where you sleep. Built-in appliances in Georgia are sold by Bosch, Electrolux, Gorenje and other brands, and we choose the model to fit the recess and the budget.
What makes up the cost
Timeline: 4–6 weeks for a design project for a 25–40 m² studio, from the measured survey to the materials list and estimate
- the number of beds and the different ways the studio will be used
What raises the cost
- made-to-measure wardrobes and a kitchen along the whole long wall
- a glass partition or a platform by the sleeping area
- moving the kitchen or bathroom from where the developer put them
- lighting scenes with hidden accent lighting
What lowers the cost
- the kitchen and bathroom stay where the developer put them
- some of the furniture is ready-made, from a catalogue
We prepare the exact estimate from measurements and photos. It’s free and comes with no obligation.

We correct errors in the drawings under the terms of the contract.
When a sheet turns out not to match the apartment on site, we follow the procedure set out in the contract, which also records the number of revision rounds for each stage. In a studio a mistake in the width of a walkway shows at once, so before issuing the sheets we check the furniture on the plan with its doors and drawers open.
Questions and answers
How much does a studio apartment design project cost in Batumi?
A design project for a whole studio up to 40 m² costs from 4,760 to 7,130 ₾. It includes zoning options, 3D, working drawings and a materials list. This is the designer's work: renovating the studio to the project is priced separately, from 540 ₾ per m², and the furniture and appliances are extra too.
If the studio is over 40 m², we price the project per metre, 145–190 ₾ per m². We give a provisional price from the floor plan, and the final cost is set after the measured survey and once the scope of the project is agreed.
Where should the TV go in a studio so that it can be seen from both the bed and the sofa?
If the bed and sofa face the same way, we mount the TV on a wall visible from both and check the viewing angle from the pillow on the plan. When the bed is at the back behind shelving, the screen goes into the shelving itself on a swivel stand and is turned towards whichever zone is watching.
We choose the spot before the wiring. Behind the TV there has to be a socket and a cable hidden in the wall, otherwise the wires can be seen from anywhere in the studio. On a plasterboard partition we only hang a screen on a backing plate installed before the partition is boarded.
Can the kitchen in a studio be hidden behind doors?
It can. A kitchen in a cupboard is closed off with folding doors or with panels that slide back into pockets on either side. During the day and when guests are over, the room looks like a living room, and the kitchen opens up while you cook. The pockets need a few centimetres on each side, so we allow for the width of the recess on the plan from the start.
Appliances behind doors need air: we leave ventilation gaps for the fridge and oven, and you cook only with the doors open, otherwise steam settles on the inside of the fronts. In a cupboard like this we use an induction hob and a built-in hood.
Can a studio have a bed on a platform?
Yes, if the ceiling allows. A 40–50 cm platform gives drawers under the whole bed but takes away height: with a ceiling of about 2.7 m, roughly two metres remain above the mattress, and you feel it. A platform needs a lit step and sockets at the headboard, wired through the platform itself.
In a humid climate we make the drawers with grilles or slots, otherwise the duvets smell damp by spring. We don't recommend a platform in a studio for letting: guests trip over the step at night, and cleaning under the bed turns into emptying drawers.
Does a 25 m² studio need a full design project?
Not always. If the kitchen and bathroom stay where the developer put them and the furniture is mostly ready-made, an express project is enough: a furniture layout, plans for the electrician and plumber, and a simple model. A full project is needed when the kitchen and wardrobes are made to measure along a whole wall, or the bed is screened off with glass or raised on a platform.
In 25 m² decisions like these have to fit to the centimetre, and without drawings they are adjusted on site. We look at the studio plan and tell you before the contract which format suits it.
