Lighting installation in Batumi: groups and scenes for your apartment
We do lighting installation in Batumi apartments to the furniture plan: general, task, accent and night lighting split into groups, with switches where you need them. We fit downlights, tracks, LED strip in profiles and linear lights, and put the power supplies behind access hatches. Fitting a downlight costs from 38 ₾ for the labour, with light fittings and power supplies priced separately. The cables go in at the rough stage, and the lights after painting.
from 38 ₾/pclabour per downlight, including the hole in plasterboard; light fittings and power supplies extra. The final price is confirmed once agreed.
- Timeline: 3–6 working days to install the lighting in a one-bedroom (1+1) apartment after painting, if the cables and fixings were put in at the rough stage
- Warranty: 2-year warranty on lighting installation
Who it’s for
Your apartment is in white frame, and the lighting needs deciding before plastering, while cable is still easy to run to the ceiling
A kitchen-living room in a studio, where the light over the worktop and the light by the sofa must switch on separately
You want linear lights and recess lighting but don’t want to hunt for a power supply in the ceiling later
Your resale apartment has one chandelier per room, and you need downlights, wall lights by the bed and a light by the mirror
An apartment for rent: guests need simple lighting without a remote, and the bulbs must be on sale in Batumi

Where lighting starts: the furniture and the ceiling
We plan lighting installation in Batumi apartments before the rough electrics, because the cables in the walls and the fixings in the ceiling depend on it. We need the furniture layout, the type of ceiling in each room and an idea of how you spend your evenings. A light over the dining table that gets moved half a metre after plastering means cutting a new chase.
In each room we lay the lighting out in layers: general lighting, task lighting over the worktop and the mirror, accent lighting in recesses and on walls, and night lighting by the bed and in the hallway. The type of ceiling decides which of them can be built in. What changes with the choice between stretch film and plasterboard is covered in the comparison of stretch and plasterboard ceilings.
Groups and scenes
A group is a set of light fittings on one switch or one channel. A scene is made up of several groups: in the evening the recess lighting and wall lights are on, for cleaning all the downlights, and at night only the floor lighting in the hallway. You don’t need an app for this: two or three switches by the entrance and a two-way switch by the bed are enough.
| Room | Groups | Where they are switched from |
|---|---|---|
| Living room | General light, recess or pelmet lighting, a light by the sofa | By the entrance, with the accent lighting also by the sofa |
| Kitchen | General, over the worktop, over the table | By the kitchen entrance, with the task light by the worktop |
| Bedroom | General, a wall light on each side, night lighting | By the door, with two-way switches by the bed |
| Bathroom | General, a light by the mirror | Outside, by the door |
| Hallway and corridor | Downlights, night floor lighting | By the entrance and at the end of the corridor |
We run a separate cable to each group and bring a neutral into every switch box, even if there is an ordinary switch there for now. An ordinary switch can then be swapped for a smart one later without chasing the wall; there is more on this on the page about a smart home in your apartment. In a rental apartment we add a switch by the front door that turns everything off at once, as described in the section on renovating apartments for short-term rental.
Downlights, tracks and strips
We cut the hole for a downlight in plasterboard with a hole saw before the final skim coat, and fit the light itself after painting. In a stretch ceiling, a mounting platform is fixed in advance for each downlight. We don’t put downlights tight against a floor-to-ceiling wardrobe or a curtain rail: the light hits the door or the curtain and falls on it as a bright patch.
A track is fed from a single point, and we choose where it goes on the plan, usually by a wall, so that the cable doesn’t cross the whole ceiling. A magnetic track runs at low voltage and needs its own power supply, which we price as a separate item.
We fit LED strip in an aluminium profile with a diffuser and never stick it straight onto the skim coat. A long run is split into sections or fed from both ends, otherwise the light gets dimmer towards the far end. How a recess for concealed lighting is built and which strip goes into it is described on the page about multi-level ceilings.
Power supplies and drivers: where we hide them
An LED strip power supply or a downlight driver fails more often than the LEDs themselves. So we put each one where it can be replaced without redoing the finishes: behind an access hatch in a boxing, in a wardrobe, above the door of an overhead cupboard. We choose a power supply rated 20–30 % higher than the strip draws: run at its limit, it heats up and fails sooner.
We place the power supply close to the strip. At 12 or 24 V, the current in the wire for the same power is 10–20 times higher than at 220 V, and a long, thin wire eats up some of the light. We mark every location on the diagram and photograph it for the handover file. When we take over lighting done by someone else, this is what we find most often:
- a power supply sealed into plasterboard with no access hatch;
- strip stuck straight onto the skim coat, with no profile;
- light fittings in different shades of white in the same room;
- a dimmer that doesn’t match the driver, so the light flickers or hums at low brightness.
Order of work
Lighting runs through the whole renovation. At the rough stage we pull cables to the groups, fit switch boxes with a neutral, and leave cable with spare length at the recesses and the power supply locations. At the ceiling stage we fit platforms for the stretch film and cut holes and hatches in the plasterboard. Profiles with strip, downlights, tracks and chandeliers go in after the final coat of paint.
The last step is switching on every group and scene. We check for flicker at the dimmer’s minimum brightness with a phone camera: the eye doesn’t always notice it, but on the screen it shows up as stripes.
How much lighting installation in Batumi costs
Fitting a downlight costs from 38 to 54 ₾ per light. That is the labour: the hole in the plasterboard, connection and fitting, while the light fitting itself, the track, the strip and the power supply are priced separately, according to the chosen model. LED strip installation costs 34–38 ₾ per linear metre for the labour, a lighting track 27–30 ₾ per metre, fitting a power supply 30–36 ₾, and a chandelier 51–60 ₾.
The price goes up with stretch ceilings with a shadow gap profile, which costs 42–54 ₾ per linear metre, with many groups on two-way switches, and with new outlets: the labour for each new point, whether a switch or an outlet for a light, costs 42–66 ₾. The final cost is set after the lighting plan and once the estimate is agreed.
Stages and timelines
-
Lighting plan
2–3 days
From the furniture layout we mark the light fittings, divide them into groups and decide where each one is switched from.
-
Cables at the rough stage
2–4 days
We run cable to each group, bring a neutral into the switch boxes and leave spare length at the recesses and power supply locations.
-
Ceiling and fixings
1–3 days
We fit platforms for the stretch ceiling, and cut holes and hatches in the plasterboard before the skim coat.
-
Profiles and power supplies
1–2 days
We fix the profiles and tracks and put the power supplies behind hatches. The strip and downlights wait for the final coat of paint.
-
Light fittings
1–3 days
After painting we fit the downlights, strip, tracks and chandeliers and connect the switches and dimmers.
-
Testing the scenes
1 day
We switch on every group, check the dimmers for flicker and check the power supplies for heating under load.
Local specifics in Batumi
In Batumi apartments with sea views there is plenty of light during the day, but in the evening the panoramic glass works like a dark mirror and reflects every downlight. So by large windows we take the light away from the glass: lighting in the curtain pelmet and wall lights, and no downlights directly above the window.
In summer it is hot inside the boxings under the ceiling, and in winter a closed apartment is damp. We choose power supplies in moisture-protected housings and don’t hide them above the bathroom. In older buildings, where the voltage sometimes drops in the evening, LEDs on cheap drivers start to flicker. There we fit drivers with a wide input voltage range, or protect the apartment from voltage fluctuations first.
We choose bulbs and downlights in standard sizes that are sold in Batumi. It is easier for a guest or the property manager to buy a bulb like that in the shop next door than to wait for a module for an unusual light fitting.
Materials and brands
We fit switches and dimmers from the same series as the sockets: Legrand, Schneider Electric or ABB, or Jung or Berker where the design matters. We choose the dimmer for the load type given in the driver’s data sheet: LEDs usually need a trailing-edge dimmer.
With strip and light fittings we don’t go by brand but by specifications: a colour rendering index (CRI) of at least 90 by the mirror and over the worktop, one colour temperature per room, and a power supply with spare capacity. The profile is aluminium with a matt diffuser. For rental apartments, downlights with a replaceable bulb are more convenient than ones with a built-in module: the bulb is changed in a minute.
What makes up the cost
Timeline: 3–6 working days to install the lighting in a one-bedroom (1+1) apartment after painting, if the cables and fixings were put in at the rough stage
- light fittings, strip and power supplies are priced separately from the labour
What raises the cost
- many groups and two-way switches
- linear lights and a shadow gap profile in a stretch ceiling
- magnetic tracks with separate power supplies
- dimming, when the drivers and dimmers have to be matched in pairs
What lowers the cost
- downlights in plasterboard, where we cut the holes on site
- chandeliers and wall lights on existing outlets, without new circuits
We prepare the exact estimate from measurements and photos. It’s free and comes with no obligation.

Questions and answers
How much does it cost to fit downlights in Batumi?
The labour costs from 38 to 54 ₾ per downlight: the hole in the plasterboard, connection and fitting the light. The lights themselves and the power supplies are priced separately, according to the models you have chosen. If a downlight needs a new point with cable from a junction box, or a new switch, that is another 42–66 ₾ per point.
In a stretch ceiling, a platform for each downlight is fitted before the film is stretched, and this is part of the ceiling work. The final cost is set after the lighting plan and once the estimate is agreed, and we send a preliminary estimate from photos and a plan within 24 hours on business days.
What light fittings can go in a bathroom?
The closer a light is to the shower head and the bath, the higher the water protection it needs. Above the bath and in the shower area we fit lights rated at least IP44, and where the spray can reach, IP65. Lighting in a shower niche is done only at safety extra-low voltage, 12 V, and its power supply is taken out of the wet area and put behind a hatch.
A light by the mirror gets the same protection if the mirror is closer than 60 cm to the bath or shower. All the bathroom lighting is connected through a 30 mA RCD, and the downlights in the ceiling above the shower have closed housings so that steam can’t get inside.
Why does an LED bulb or strip flicker?
Most often because the dimmer doesn’t match the driver: at low brightness the light starts to flicker or hum. The second common cause is a cheap power supply whose ripple is visible even without a dimmer. Sometimes a bulb glows faintly when it is switched off: that is what happens with a switch that has an illuminated rocker.
If everything flickers at once in the evening, the problem may be the mains voltage. Send us a short video, and the electrician will tell you what to change: the dimmer, the driver or the switch, or whether the voltage needs measuring first.
What colour temperature should I choose for an apartment?
For the living room and bedroom we use warm light, 2700–3000 K: it is restful and doesn’t make the room feel like a hospital. Over the worktop, by the mirror and in a work corner, 3000–4000 K works well, because under it the colour of food and your face are easier to see. Cold light above 5000 K is hardly ever used at home.
Within one room we keep all the light fittings at the same temperature, otherwise the downlights and the strip give different shades of white, and it shows straight away. The mismatch is noticeable in the photos for a rental listing too.
Can lighting be added once the renovation is finished?
Yes, but there is less choice. Strip in a surface-mounted profile goes into a curtain recess, on top of a wardrobe or under the kitchen wall units, with power taken from the nearest socket or switch. The power supply is hidden in a cupboard or a boxing with a lid. A surface-mounted track is hung on the existing ceiling, and the cable to it is run in trunking along the wall.
Building strip into a stretch ceiling, or putting a new group on its own switch without chasing, usually isn’t possible. In that case smart relays behind the existing switch can help, if there is a neutral in its box.
