Gutter installation in Batumi: sizing and fitting
We size gutter systems in Batumi from the slope areas and the force of local downpours: gutter width, number of downpipes and outlet positions. We fit PVC, coated steel, aluminium or copper, fix hooks on new roofs before the covering, and take downpipes to gully pots and the storm drain rather than to the foundation. A PVC gutter system with installation starts from 75 ₾ per linear metre of eaves.
from 75 ₾/lin. mPVC system installed: gutters, hooks, outlets, downpipes; storm drain extra. The final price is confirmed once agreed.
- Timeline: gutters for a private house with 40–60 linear metres of eaves usually take 3–5 days after the system arrives
- Warranty: Gutter installation has a 2-year warranty

Gutter installation in Batumi: why it needs calculating
A gutter seems a small thing until the first downpour. In Batumi so much water lands on a roof in half an hour that a narrow gutter overflows, and a sheet of water falls by the foundation, washes out the apron and soaks the plinth. So for gutter installation in Batumi we calculate the system from the area of each slope and the intensity of local downpours, rather than fitting the usual size of one standard.
The calculation gives three things: gutter width, downpipe diameter and number, and outlet positions. On long eaves it is better to add an extra downpipe than to save: one blocked outlet on a long gutter turns the whole eave into a waterfall.
PVC, steel or copper
| Material | Pros | Cons |
|---|---|---|
| PVC | Does not rust, light, cheap | Expands a lot in the sun, brittle in frost |
| Coated steel | Rigid, holds snow and ice | Rusts at cuts and scratches by the sea |
| Coated aluminium | Does not rust, light | Costs more than steel, softer under impact |
| Copper or titanium-zinc | Last for decades, need no painting | Most expensive, only to order |
By the sea PVC and aluminium work well for seafront houses, in the mountains steel, which holds snow and ice. A copper gutter makes sense next to a copper or standing seam roof: metals in one system must be compatible, otherwise corrosion speeds up.
Hooks, fall and downpipes
On a new roof, long hooks are fixed to the rafters or battens before the covering goes on, so the gutter holds more firmly and is not torn off by snow. On an existing roof we fix short brackets to the fascia board, checking it for rot first. We usually space hooks 50–60 cm apart, closer in the mountains.
The gutter is set with a fall to the outlet, usually 3–5 mm per metre. The gutter edge sits below the line of the roof slope so that sliding snow does not tear it off. Downpipes are fixed to the wall with brackets that hold them off the facade, and the pipe ends so that the flow does not land on the apron right by the wall.
Where the water goes
The most common mistake on private houses in Adjara is a downpipe that ends with an elbow above the ground by the foundation. Water from it goes under the apron and to the basement wall, and works against the waterproofing for years. We connect downpipes to gully pots with silt traps and take the water to the storm drain or a safe spot on the plot, but never onto a neighbour's land. Why this matters for the foundation is explained on the foundation waterproofing page.
Leaves, ice and maintenance
If there are trees above the roof, gutters get leaf mesh or guards and outlets get balloon guards. This does not remove the need to clean, but makes it less frequent. In mountain houses we lay heating cable in gutters and downpipes with a thermostat: without it, spring ice tears off hooks and splits pipes. Gutters need cleaning in autumn after leaf fall and in spring, and for a house the owners rarely visit it is convenient to hand this to whoever handles house management.
Concealed gutters hidden in the eaves or behind a parapet look neat, but when blocked they send water into the house. We build them only with a backup overflow to the outside and inspection hatches. How gutters relate to the roof shape is covered on the pitched roof page.
How much gutters cost
A PVC gutter system with installation costs from 75 ₾ per linear metre of eaves: gutters, hooks, outlets, downpipes with brackets and offsets. A coated steel system starts from 110 ₾, copper or titanium-zinc from 320 ₾ per linear metre. Heating cable starts from 110 ₾ per linear metre, a downpipe connection to the storm drain with a gully from 350 ₾ per point, and gutter cleaning from 10 ₾ per linear metre. The final price is set after measuring the eaves, once the estimate is agreed.

Local specifics in Batumi
Downpours in Batumi come with wind, and water from the roof flies not only into the gutter but past it. So on windward eaves we set the gutter closer to the edge of the slope and wider than calculated, and place outlets so water never runs more than 10–12 m to the nearest downpipe.
In autumn gutters fill with leaves of plane trees, magnolias and eucalyptus, which grow in almost every yard. Eucalyptus leaves are stiff and do not wash away easily, so under such trees we fit gutter guards and balloon guards in the outlets. On seafront houses salty wind quickly eats cheap steel brackets, so we use stainless ones.
Materials and brands
PVC gutter systems with impact modifiers, systems in galvanised steel with a polymer coating, aluminium, copper or titanium-zinc. Long hooks and short brackets in the same metal, stainless or coated pipe brackets. Leaf mesh and guards, balloon guards. Self-regulating heating cable with a thermostat. Gully pots with silt traps and PVC pipes for external drainage.
What makes up the cost
Timeline: gutters for a private house with 40–60 linear metres of eaves usually take 3–5 days after the system arrives
- height of the house and work from a lift
What raises the cost
- copper, titanium-zinc or aluminium instead of PVC
- long eaves and many corners
- heating cable and leaf protection
- connection to the storm drain with groundworks
What lowers the cost
- simple roof with two short eaves
- hooks fitted on a new roof before the covering

Questions and answers
How much do gutters for a private house cost in Batumi?
A PVC gutter system with installation costs from 75 ₾ per linear metre of eaves, coated steel from 110 ₾ and copper from 320 ₾ per linear metre. For a house with 40–60 linear metres of eaves the total depends mainly on the material, the height and the number of corners. Storm drain connections and heating cable are priced separately. The final price is set after measuring, once the estimate is agreed.
Which gutters are better by the sea, plastic or metal?
Right by the sea PVC and aluminium outlast steel: they do not rust at cuts and scratches. Steel with a good coating also works if it is installed carefully. In the mountains, where snow and ice sit on the roof, steel is better: PVC becomes brittle in frost.
Why does the gutter overflow in heavy rain?
There are usually three reasons: the gutter is too narrow for the slope area, there are too few downpipes, or the outlet is blocked with leaves. Sometimes the fall is wrong and water sits in the middle of the gutter. The fix is a proper calculation, an extra downpipe and leaf mesh, not just cleaning.
Where should water from downpipes go?
To the storm drain through a gully pot with a silt trap, or to a safe part of the yard that falls away from the house. It must not be released onto the apron by the wall, into a basement or onto a neighbour's plot. If there is no storm drain nearby, we lay a channel or pipe to a spot where the water can soak away safely.
How often should gutters be cleaned?
Usually twice a year: in autumn after leaf fall and in spring. With large trees over the house, more often, sometimes after every storm. Guards reduce the work but do not remove it. If you rarely visit the house, ask your property manager to clean them and send photos afterwards.
