Curtains and home textiles in Batumi: rugs, bedding and decor for your apartment
We choose curtains and home textiles in Batumi as a single list: curtains and rails, rugs, bed linen and towels, pillows, throws and things for the walls. The fabrics we choose cope with a damp winter and machine washing. Curtains are made to measure or bought ready-made, and we hang them ourselves along with the rail. A package for a 1+1 apartment with the curtains hung costs from 4,200 ₾.

What the package includes and where to start
We put together curtains and home textiles for an apartment room by room, and the list starts with the windows: how many there are, how wide they are, whether there is a door to the balcony, and what kind of ceiling is above the window. The curtain rail and the curtains depend on this, and they are the largest and slowest part of the package. Everything else is chosen around them in one colour scheme: rugs, bed linen, towels, pillows and throws, mirrors and pictures.
For short-term rental the list is longer; the full set of things for guests is covered on the page about furnishing for short-term rental.
The curtain rail is decided before the ceiling
A concealed curtain track in a ceiling recess looks neatest of all, but the recess is built at the ceiling stage, together with the lighting, as described on the page about multi-level ceilings. In a stretch ceiling the rail is fixed to the slab or to a timber batten built in for it, not to the membrane, and that too is decided before the membrane goes up.
We make the rail 15–20 cm wider than the window on each side, so that a drawn-back curtain doesn't cover the glass. For heavy curtains we choose a profile track with gliders: heavy fabric runs along it more easily than rings along a pole, and doesn't pull on the brackets. If there is to be a sheer behind the main curtain, the rail needs two tracks.
Curtains: ready-made or made to measure
Ready-made curtains 140 cm wide and 245–300 cm long suit an ordinary window and a standard ceiling height. Made-to-measure curtains are sewn to a measurement taken from the installed rail to the floor. We use roughly twice the rail length in fabric, so the curtain falls in even folds and isn't pulled flat when closed.
A bedroom needs blackout or a curtain with a heavy lining. For the kitchen and the balcony door a roller blind fitted on the sash is more practical: it doesn't catch on the handle and doesn't get in the way when you open the window. Roller blinds, blinds and roller shutters are things we fit to the windows as products in their own right; they are covered on the page about roller blinds, blinds and mosquito screens.
Rugs and mats
By the sea, wool absorbs moisture from the air, dries slowly and starts to smell in a closed apartment in winter. So we more often choose synthetics, polypropylene or polyester with a short pile. A vacuum cleaner pulls beach sand out of a short pile, but hardly at all out of a long one.
Under a rug on porcelain tiles we put an anti-slip underlay. On SPC vinyl we choose an underlay that the flooring manufacturer approves for vinyl: a rubber backing can leave yellow stains on it over time. By the entrance and in the bathroom, on the tiles, we put rubber-backed mats that can go in the washing machine.
Bed linen, towels and pillows
We choose bed linen in cotton or cotton with a small share of polyester: it washes clean more easily and creases less. We choose towels of medium weight, around 450–500 g/m². Heavy terry towelling by the sea in winter takes a day or more to dry and starts to smell if the bathroom has no heated towel rail.
Pillows and duvets with a synthetic filling cope with damp better than down and feather ones. Feathers take on moisture and smell, while synthetics can be machine-washed and dried in a day.
Decor and things on the walls
There isn't much decor on our list, but every item hangs securely. A heavy mirror goes on two fixings, and what to fix with into concrete, blockwork and plasterboard is described on the page about furniture assembly and fixing to the wall.
Paper posters behind glass ripple over time in humid air, so for apartments that stand empty in winter we choose prints on canvas or on photo paper in a frame with a solid backing board. We only put in live plants if there is someone to look after them.
Textiles for letting: practicality and spares
In a rental apartment textiles are replaced more often, and they have to be bought one item at a time. So we sew the curtains for the whole apartment from one batch of fabric and put one pair aside as a spare: a year later the same fabric may come from a different batch, and a new curtain would be a noticeably different shade. Towels, pillowcases and mats come from permanent ranges that aren't discontinued every season.
We choose colours on which small stains don't show after washing. One or two decorative cushions on the sofa is enough: any more end up on the floor or in a cupboard anyway. How many changes of linen each bed needs depends on how often guests change over and who does the laundry; this is covered on the page about laundry and linen changes between guests. A tenant on a one-year lease needs a more modest set: the curtains and mats stay, and tenants often bring their own bed linen. There is more about this on the page about furnishing for long-term rental.
Curtains and home textiles in Batumi: how much the package costs
A textiles and decor package for a one-bedroom (1+1) apartment, with the curtains hung, costs from 4,200 to 6,600 ₾. It usually includes curtains, bed linen, towels, pillows, a rug and decor, and we adjust the contents to the apartment. The exact figure within the range comes from the approved list.
The windows move the total more than anything else. A ready-made 140 × 245–300 cm curtain costs 51–78 ₾ per panel, made-to-measure tailored curtains 200–300 ₾ per linear metre of rail, and made-to-measure roller blinds 75–100 ₾ per m². A curtain rail costs 78–120 ₾, the labour to install it 15–18 ₾ per linear metre, and a concealed curtain track in a ceiling recess, installed, 215–250 ₾ per metre.
Made-to-measure curtains across a whole wall of panoramic glazing, a double track with a sheer, and wool rugs cost more. Ready-made curtains of standard length and synthetic rugs from stock cost less. The final cost is set after the windows are measured and the list is agreed.

Local specifics in Batumi
In winter, condensation forms on the large windows of new builds in the mornings, most of all in the bedroom. A curtain that touches the glass or lies on the floor soaks up this water, and grey specks of mould appear along its bottom edge. So we set the rail away from the glass and make the curtain so that it stops 1–2 cm above the floor.
The sea wind blows a light sheer out through an open balcony door, where it catches on the door leaf and gets dirty on the railing. We sew a weight tape into the hem of light curtains and fit a tieback by the balcony door.
Linen and viscose curtains stretch in humid weather and shrink back in the dry air from the air conditioning, so the hem moves up and down by a couple of centimetres. By the sea we more often choose polyester or blends with a high polyester content, keep natural fabrics for where texture matters, and make them with extra fabric in the hem.
Materials and brands
We choose main curtains in polyester or blended fabrics from 250–300 g/m²: they hold their folds, don't let light through and don't shrink in the wash. We choose woven blackout with a dense weave rather than fabric with a coating sprayed on the back, which cracks after a few washes. Sheers in voile or mesh are synthetic too; they are washed at 30–40 °C and steamed once they are back on the rail.
Rails and tracks are aluminium, and brackets stainless steel or powder-coated: a steel pole with thin chrome plating rusts by an open window in salty air. With rugs we look at the backing. A latex or rubber backing isn't harmed by damp mopping and is fine on tiles, while jute soaks up water, and mould grows under it. We choose frames for mirrors and pictures in aluminium or painted wood.

2-year warranty on fitting curtain rails and fixing items to walls.
If a rail sags or a mirror comes away from the wall because of the fixing, we put it right at our own expense. Fabrics, rugs and linen carry the manufacturer's or the seller's warranty. The warranty doesn't cover wear, stains, or shrinkage from washing that didn't follow the care label.
Questions and answers
How much do made-to-measure curtains cost in Batumi?
Made-to-measure tailored curtains cost 200–300 ₾ per linear metre of rail. Where your price falls depends on the fabric, on blackout or a lining, and on a second track with a sheer. A ready-made 140 × 245–300 cm curtain is cheaper, at 51–78 ₾ per panel, and a made-to-measure roller blind costs 75–100 ₾ per m².
The curtain rail is priced separately, at 78–120 ₾, as is the labour to install it, at 15–18 ₾ per linear metre. The whole textiles and decor package for a 1+1, with hanging, usually costs 4,200–6,600 ₾. The final cost is set after the windows are measured and the fabrics are agreed.
What curtains should I choose for panoramic windows?
For a floor-to-ceiling window we make curtains to measure: the height of such openings rarely matches ready-made curtains, and fabric that stops short of the floor is noticed straight away. If the glazing includes a sliding door to the balcony, we split the curtains so that the door opens without drawing back all the fabric.
In summer, south- and west-facing glass heats the room, and a heavy lined curtain takes some of the load off the air conditioner during the day. For a span this wide we choose a light sheer and fit the brackets closer together than usual, otherwise a long track sags. For a bedroom with a panoramic window we add a second track with blackout.
Blackout or a lined curtain: which is better for a bedroom?
Blackout lets almost no light through and suits people who sleep during the day, or who go to bed early in summer while it is still light outside. Woven blackout can be machine-washed and drapes softly. A curtain with a heavy lining lets a little light in at the edges and through the fabric, but the choice of fabrics and colours is wider.
For a bedroom we often combine the two: a curtain in a decorative fabric with a blackout lining. No light gets into the room, and the outer fabric can be anything you like, to match the walls and the sofa.
How do I get rid of a damp smell in curtains and rugs?
We take the curtains down, wash them according to the care label and dry them completely, ideally in dry weather or in the apartment with a dehumidifier running. If they are hung back up while still slightly damp, the smell returns within a week. A short-pile synthetic rug can be washed; a wool one goes to a dry cleaner.
A damp smell means the apartment is too humid. Without airing and dehumidifying in winter it will come back on new things too, so we look at the humidity first. If the fabric already has mould spots, it is easier to replace that curtain than to try to wash them out.
Can I order just curtains and rails?
Yes. We come to measure, look at the ceiling and the wall above the window, suggest a rail and fabrics, install the rail and then make the curtains to the exact drop. Ready-made curtains are chosen to the window size and brought along with the rail.
If the ceiling is a stretch ceiling, we first check whether there is a recess or a built-in mounting for the rail by the window. If we did the renovation, the diagram in the handover file will show this straight away. We hang and steam the curtains on site, so that the folds fall evenly from day one.
