Connecting gas to a house in Batumi: who does what
Gas in Batumi is supplied by SOCAR Georgia Gas. Connecting gas to a house in Batumi falls into two parts. The network up to the plot, the tie-in and the meter are done by the gas company on its own terms and at its own price. Everything after the meter, that is the design, internal gas pipework, the boiler location, flue and ventilation, we prepare, and the gas work itself is done by a licensed contractor. Gas is turned on to the house by an employee of the gas company.
What we check before the design
- whether a gas pipeline runs near the plot and how far away;
- what pressure the network has and where the company will place the meter;
- which documents are needed for the connection application;
- where the boiler and hob will be in the house and how the pipe will reach them;
- where the flue will exit and how the room will be ventilated.
We find out the timing and procedure of the connection from the gas company for the specific plot and do not promise them in advance. If there is no gas at the plot and none expected soon, the heating is planned without it, for example on a heat pump.
A place for the boiler
A wall-hung boiler can go in the kitchen or the plant room, while floor-standing and high-output boilers go in a separate boiler room. The room needs an air supply, a window or ventilation and a non-combustible wall finish behind the boiler. We fit a gas leak detector with a solenoid valve on the supply: if there is a leak, it shuts off the gas by itself. Next to the boiler we leave space for the cylinder, pump groups and servicing.
Internal gas pipework and flue
The gas pipe from the meter to the boiler and hob runs to the design in approved materials, exposed or in accessible ducts so that it can be inspected. Through walls the pipe passes in a sleeve. After installation the gas pipework is pressure tested and a test report is drawn up. For a wall-hung boiler we usually fit a concentric flue through the wall, for a floor-standing one an insulated stainless steel flue taken above the roof. How the boiler fits into the heating system is described on the heating page.
A kitchen with a gas hob
The hob is connected with a certified flexible hose with a valve that can be shut off without moving the furniture. We choose a hob with flame failure protection on every burner. A kitchen with gas needs a working extractor and an air supply, so ventilation is planned together with the gas, see the ventilation page.
Maintenance
A boiler needs an annual service: cleaning, checking the controls, burner and flue. A carbon monoxide alarm next to the boiler and in bedrooms costs little and can save lives. If the house stands empty, gas to the hob can be shut off with a separate valve, while the boiler is left in frost protection mode.
How much a gas connection costs
Internal gas pipework for a house from the meter to the boiler and hob with materials costs from 2 100 ₾. A gas supply design and connection support from 1 080 ₾, a 24 kW gas boiler installed from 2 760 ₾, a condensing boiler with cylinder from 5 400 ₾. An insulated stainless flue from 450 ₾ per linear metre, plant room pipework from 6 300 ₾. The gas company's fee for the connection and meter is not included in our prices. Gas can be compared with a heat pump on the heat pump or gas page. The final cost is set after the gas company's conditions and an agreed estimate.

Local specifics in Batumi
Not every street in Batumi has a gas main, especially in new districts and on the outskirts. Sometimes the pipe runs a hundred metres away, but the connection conditions make it expensive or slow. So before designing the house we check the situation at the address and, if gas is uncertain, plan a system that can also work without it.
By the sea salt and moisture damage outdoor gas pipes and their fixings, so we check the paint and condition of exposed gas pipework on the facade at each service. On the seaward side we route the boiler flue so that the wind does not blow it back, and the condensate from a condensing boiler goes to the drainage rather than down the facade.
Materials and brands
Steel pipes or certified corrugated gas pipes, gas valves and sleeves for passing through walls. Gas leak detectors with solenoid valves, carbon monoxide alarms. Wall-hung and condensing gas boilers, concentric flues, insulated stainless steel flues. Certified flexible hob connectors, air supply grilles for the boiler room.
What makes up the cost

- the gas company's conditions
What raises the cost
- a long internal gas pipe run
- a separate boiler room and a flue above the roof
- a condensing boiler with cylinder
- moving the boiler or hob in an existing house
What lowers the cost
- boiler and hob close to the entry point
- a wall-hung boiler with a concentric flue
We prepare the exact estimate from measurements and photos. It’s free and comes with no obligation.

Questions and answers
How much does it cost to connect a private house to gas in Batumi?
Our part: internal gas pipework with materials from 2 100 ₾, design and support from 1 080 ₾, a gas boiler installed from 2 760 ₾. The fee for connecting to the network and the meter is set by the gas company and is not included in our prices. The final cost is set after the company's conditions and an agreed estimate.
How can I find out whether gas can be connected to my plot?
You need to ask the gas company, by address, whether a gas pipeline runs nearby and on what terms a private house is connected to it. We do this before the design so as not to draw a boiler room for gas that will never arrive. We do not promise connection timelines in advance.
Can a gas boiler be hung in the kitchen?
A wall-hung boiler often goes in the kitchen if it has an air supply, a window or ventilation, and room for a concentric flue through the wall. Floor-standing and high-output boilers go in a separate boiler room. The exact room requirements come from the design and the manufacturer's instructions.
Who carries out the gas work?
The internal gas pipework is installed by a contractor licensed for gas work, and gas is turned on by an employee of the gas company. We prepare the design, the room, the flue and ventilation, and coordinate installation and boiler commissioning. You must not connect gas yourself, and after any alteration the gas pipework is pressure tested again and a new report is drawn up.
Do I need a gas leak detector?
We always fit one: a gas detector with a solenoid valve on the supply shuts off the gas if there is a leak, even when nobody is home. A carbon monoxide alarm next to the boiler and in bedrooms is also useful. Both are inexpensive compared with the risk.
